Aromatherapy is the use of concentrated plant extracts aka essential oil to help improve mood, mental state and health.

Essential oils can either be blended into cosmetic products, used for massage or inhaled through incense sticks or diffusers.

Each essential oil holds it’s very own unique health qualities, so often a few are blended together to make a combination fit for the user.

If you suffer from depression, it is important to not just rely on aromatherapy to treat it. Instead, consider just adding it into a larger treatment plan that you already have.

Using this alongside your other therapies may help boost your mood and relieve tension.

What methods can I use my essential Oil to treat depression?

Massage

When essential oils are used in an aromatherapy massage, the unique healing qualities are absorbed into the skin and then carried around the body through the blood stream. Combining aromatherapy with massage is a great way to ease stress and relax.

Baths

Putting a couple of drops of oil into the bath can really help you unwind after a long day. If one of your depression symptoms is insomnia then a warm bath before bedtime can help regulate your body temperature, making it easier for your body to relax and sleep.

Cosmetics
Adding a few drops of your essential oil to cosmetic or hair care products can also help with improving mood.

Diffusers or Incense Burning

Applying a couple of drops of oil to a diffuser or lighting an incense stick can really help release stress and tension, helping you to relax and unwind.

SAFETY NOTE

You may want to talk to a certified aromatherapist before using aromatherapy for depression.

Essential oils are extremely concentrated and need to be diluted before use. You can do this by purchasing a carrier oil (i.e Grape Seed Oil, Almond Oil) and then blend by using the following instruction:

10 drops of essential oil to every 2 tablespoons of carrier oil.
